Residents evacuated as house destroyed in suspicious blaze south of Adelaide

An Adelaide home has been destroyed in an explosive fire that blew the roof off before showering the road and neighbouring properties with glass.

A home south of Adelaide has been destroyed by a huge fire that caused an explosion and forced neighbours to flee, with police suspecting the blaze was deliberately lit.

Just after 5am on Wednesday, November 6 firefighters were called to Aldinga Rd, Willunga, after reports a house was alight.

A CFS spokesperson said the fire was extinguished by MFS and CFS firefighters, but not before the home was razed.

“Six firefighting crews from the CFS and MFS were called to a house fire causing an explosion which blew the roof and caused glass to spread across the road and neighbouring properties,” she said.

“Firefighters contained the fire to the single structure, saving neighbouring properties.”

Road closures were still in place near the scene this morning.

The house was vacant at the time and residents of neighbouring properties were evacuated for safety.

The damage value has been estimated at $500,000.

Crime Scene investigators are going to the scene this morning and police suspect the blaze was deliberately lit.
