A northern suburbs man has told how a car that crashed through the front of his home early Thursday morning came just 30 centimetres from his sister, who was asleep in bed at the time.
Adam Warner, 39, was at home when he was woken by a “loud bang” about 12.30am. A Ford Territory had crashed through the front wall of the Elizabeth Park rental he shares with his sister.
“I couldn’t open the front door so I was starting to panic thinking about what was happening,” he said.
“I tried to get into my sister’s room but I couldn’t, there were bricks across the door.
“So I went in through the bathroom and I opened the door and just saw a car parked in her bedroom.”
Mr Warner said the car was “just about touching” his sister’s bed.
“It missed her bed by 30 centimetres,” he said.
“She was laying in bed and her partner woke up and was like ‘oh my God, there’s a car in the bedroom’.”
He said the couple were shaken up but otherwise uninjured in the incident.
The crash caused such extensive damage to the house that the residents have been told they will need to move into alternate accommodation.
It also damaged the RAV4 of Mr Warner’s partner, which had been parked in the driveway, and a nearby Mazda sedan.
Following the crash, Mr Warner called police and restrained the driver of the Ford until police arrived.
That man, a 38-year-old from Smithfield Plains, was arrested and charged with refusing a breath test, driving disqualified and driving without due care.
He will face court at a later date.
