Rapper Stephen Hadham Noon aka Trex Da Menace granted bail on charges of stabbing, theft and trespass

A rapper filmed waving bundles of cash has been accused of “intimidating” witnesses to a stabbing and a home invasion from behind bars. He’s been granted bail.

A northern suburbs rapper arrested as part of an operation targeting African youth gangs has been allegedly intimidating witnesses from behind bars, a court has heard.

But despite facing multiple charges including assault, threatening to kill, trespass and the theft using force, the rapper known as Trex Da Menace will be released on bail.

Stephen Hadham Noon, 22, aka Trex was arrested as part of Operation Meld and charged with a stabbing at a unit block in Salisbury on April 19, which left a teenager with serious injuries.

He was granted bail on those charges but has since been charged with theft using force, serious criminal trespass and making threats to kill in separate incidents.

On Friday, Mr Noon appeared in the Supreme Court asking a review of a decision to refuse him bail on the new offences.

Peter Cannell, prosecuting, told the court that security camera footage from the Salisbury unit block placed a man of similar height and build to Mr Noon at the scene shortly before the stabbing.

Mr Noon had a cast on his arm at the time of the incident.

The victim, a teenage boy, was found by police in the unit in a pool of blood from a serious stab wound to the leg.

Mr Cannell conceded that the victim was not co-operating with police.

The other two men involved in the stabbing are believed to be known to the victim.

On May 1, Mr Noon is alleged to have been involved in a theft using force in Elizabeth Grove.

A witness to the incident was not entirely sure it was Mr Noon who was at the scene of the incident.

On March 21, Mr Noon is alleged to have broken into a house and threatened to kill an occupant.

Mr Cannell said one of the witnesses in that matter did not want to attend court and feared for his safety.

He told the court that if home detention bail was granted the accused would “commit further activities that the applicant has been engaged in, he will intimidate witnesses either himself or through associates”.

“As well there is a history of breaching bail, as much as five times in a year,” Mr Cannell said.

Stacey Carter, for Mr Noon, said she had not made any concessions that her client was present at any of the incidents and was likely to contest the charges.

“Police do not have a case against him,” she said.

“They have not been able to gather evidence which would give them the prospect of success at trial.”

Justice Adam Kimber noted that the prosecution were “facing challenges” getting the charges over the line.

She said Mr Noon had a house available where he would be staying with his mother.

The court heard that Mr Noon had a lengthy criminal record both in SA and Victoria.

Justice Kimber granted Mr Noon bail on strict home detention conditions.

One of the grounds for allowing the bail was the current “attitude of witnesses” who the prosecution needed to decide whether to subpoena and force to give evidence come trial.
