A young Indigenous man has died while in custody in Port Lincoln Prison last week.
The 23-year-old was found unresponsive in his cell around 10pm last Tuesday with staff administering CPR, according to a Department of Corrections spokesperson.
SA Ambulance Services arrived shortly after, also commencing CPR, however the man was unable to be revived.
Local community members confirmed the Indigenous man is not from the local area, reported the ABC.
An internal investigation by the Office for Correctional Services Review has commenced and a SAPOL investigation is underway.
All deaths in custody in are subject to a Coronial Investigation.
