Police arrest man who allegedly wielded knife in two servo robberies on the same day

A witness has revealed the ‘bizarre’ moment a knife-wielding robber calmly escapes on a push bike after robbing two service stations in the western suburbs.

Alleged bicycle thief leisurely cruises away

Police have arrested a man accused of using a knife to rob two service stations on Thursday morning, before making his getaway on a bicycle.

A robber brazenly targeted two sites in West Beach and Fulham within hours of each other, escaping with cash on both occasions.

CCTV footage from a property across the road from the West Beach service station on Military Road shows the alleged thief cycling away at a leisurely pace.

Chloe Kelleher, 27, whose cameras captured the footage, said “it didn’t look like he was trying to get away”.

“It was bizarre, he was just so calm,” she said.

“I just feel like the world we’re living in, people just don’t seem to care about their actions. When I watched it, he looked like he didn’t have a care in the world.”

A Fulham business owner across the road from the second service station reported that a neighbouring pharmacy had been robbed just last month.

She said that reports of crime and disorderly behaviour in the area had become more apparent in the last few years.

The man entered the first servo at about 9.15am armed with a knife and demanded cash from staff, before fleeing on a push bike with a small amount of money.

Police launched a search of the area, but just over an hour later, another servo was targeted.

Just before 11am, police were called to the nearby Henley Beach Rd at Fulham after a man armed with a knife demanded money from staff.

Like the previous robbery, the suspect stole cash and was last seen riding off on a bike towards the CBD.

Police later arrested a man at a West Beach house and he is expected to be charged with aggravated robberies.

He was described as being of caucasian appearance, about 173cm tall with short light coloured hair and slim build.

He was also wearing a hi-vis lime green jacket, grey tracksuit pants and carrying a black backpack during the West Beach robbery.

The man was wearing a navy blue camouflage pattern T-shirt and carrying a black backpack during the Fulham robbery.

Police are appealing for anyone with further information on the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or on 1800 333 000.

One of Adelaide’s most notorious criminals was also known for escaping the scene of his crimes on a push bike.

The original Bicycle Bandit, Kym Allen Parsons, died by euthanasia earlier this year, just days after being jailed for his 2004-2014 crime spree.

Parsons was sentenced to 35 years in jail for terrorising workers at 11 banks and stealing more than $300,000.
