Police have slammed a motorist captured on film driving with a constructed double bed strapped to the roof of their car on the Northern Expressway.
Video emerged on social media on Wednesday of a silver SUV travelling on the far right lane with the bed frame on the car’s top, with what appeared to be multiple mattresses resting on the bed.
Police deplored the activity, saying it was extremely dangerous.
“Domestic vehicles such as the one depicted in the video, are not designed to carry loads like this,” a police spokesman said,
“It presents a serious risk to the occupants and other road users.”
The type of offences the driver could be charged with include breaching load limits, and insecure or overhanging loads, with a fine of up to $500 and a potential loss of demerit points.
Police are investigating the incident.
Motorists racked up fines of almost $350,000 breaking basic SA road laws last year, including carrying an unsecured or overhanging load.
More than 100 people were fined for driving or towing unsecured or an overhanging load, costing $46,000 compared to five people the previous year.
