Police arrest man who allegedly assaulted a hotel guest in Medindie before stealing a car

A man who allegedly assaulted a hotel guest and stole a car at knifepoint just north of Adelaide has been arrested.

A man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a guest at a hotel with a knife and stole a car in one of Adelaide’s most affluent suburbs on Thursday.

Police arrived at a Medindie hotel after a guest had been assaulted with a knife.

A man then alerted police he had been robbed of his silver Hyundai sedan at knifepoint a short distance away on Main North Rd about 6.15pm.

The guest who was assaulted received a minor scratch and did not require medical treatment.

Shortly after the stolen car was involved in a crash at the intersection of Prospect Rd and Labrina Ave just before 6.30pm and the driver fled the scene.

The driver of the other car in the collision, a silver Subaru station wagon, was not injured.

Patrols searched the area with the assistance of a police dog but could not locate the suspect.

The stolen car was examined by crime scene investigators before both crashed vehicles were towed from the scene.

A 31-year-old Pooraka man was arrested eventually arrested on Friday afternoon and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated theft.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court at the earliest opportunity.
