A woman has been killed and another arrested following a hit and run in the state’s north.

A woman has died after being hit by a ute in the state’s far north on Sunday.

The 50-year-old from Whyalla Stuart was pronounced dead at the scene after she was hit at 6.30am.

The driver of the ute, a 23-year-old woman, was later arrested.

It is alleged the ute left the scene following the incident at Harris St in Copley.

Police arrested the driver of the ute after locating her a time later and charged her with causing death by careless driving.

She was granted bail and will appear in court for the first time in February next year.

The 50-year-old woman is the 84th person killed on South Australian roads in 2024.

A 45-year-old woman was killed on Friday night when her car hit a tree in Swan Reach.

Meanwhile also on Sunday, a truck collided with a cyclist in Largs North.

A police spokesman said the cyclist had been taken to hospital.
