A northern suburbs man wanted for attempted murder in connection with a wild brawl at a city nightclub last month has faced an Adelaide court..
Mathiang Malok, 23, fled Adelaide shortly after the brawl at the Nairobi Affair Lounge on Sunday March 13, SA police believe.
Detectives from the Victoria Police Gang Crime Squad early Tuesday this week raided a house in Epping, arresting Malok.
Malok appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, where he did not apply for bail.
The arrest came as part of Operation Meld, an investigation into gang violence between Sudanese youth gangs.
The Advertiser revealed in February that Operation Meld had been formed to investigate the increasing violence between the gangs – calling themselves 051 and KBS. They are concentrated in suburbs including Munno Para, Andrews Farm, Craigmore, Kilburn, Athol Park and around the Port Adelaide area.
The man arrested in Melbourne is the 19th person so far charged over the violent brawl in which six people were stabbed – with one having an arm almost severed.
On March 25 Operation Meld detectives swooped on 11 individuals – 10 of them teenagers – as investigations into the brawl intensified.
The charges include attempted murder, aggravated affray, assault and breach of bail.
The teenagers were bailed and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on May 6 while the adults are set to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on May 9.
