A teenager will face court after he allegedly fired a gel blaster during a road rage incident in the latest escalation of Adelaide’s gang war involving people of African descent.
Police allege that just before 8pm on Thursday, an altercation occurred between the occupants of a Ford Falcon and another vehicle on Port Wakefield Rd at Cavan before the passenger in the Falcon allegedly pointed a firearm out the window and fired a shot.
No one was injured in the alleged shooting.
At about 2am Friday, Northern District CIB and Operation Meld detectives searched a Hectorville property and arrested a 17-year-old boy.
During the search, detectives allegedly found a black handgun-style gel blaster.
The 17-year-old was charged with possess firearm without a licence, discharge a firearm and breach of bail.
He was refused bail to face the Adelaide Youth Court on Friday.
Police said the investigation into the Cavan incident was ongoing and asked anyone with information about the alleged shooting to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
The arrest comes after The Advertiser last month revealed warring street gangs were 3D-printing their own weapons to use in the deadly conflict.
Operation Meld was launched in July 2021 to crack down on the escalating conflict between rival groups KBS, also known as Killa Block Squad, and 051.
