Weekes’ co-accused, Leonard Robert Richard Wilkins was jailed last year after pleading guilty to drug trafficking, relating to the methamphetamine, and possessing the same gun.

The serious charges of false imprisonment, theft, arson and discharging a firearm to injure, annoy or frighten a person were dropped against the duo after a court previously heard the alleged victim, Corey James McGhee, refused to co-operate with police and supply a statement.

The court heard Weekes, who also pleaded guilty to theft, stole $5000 from the father of her child. after she was aggrieved by the way the relationship had broken down

Judge Geraldine Davison said Weekes, who had a traumatic upbringing, saw methamphetamine as “a comfort” after her life spiralled out of control.

“At the time both you and the co-accused were living together in an intimate relationship, you were both consuming illicit drugs and your house was frequented by other people who were doing the same,” she said.

“The firearms offending occurred at a time in your life ... when everything was dysfunctional, chaotic and characterised primarily by illicit drug use.”

Judge Tracey sentenced Weekes to two years and nine months, with a non-parole period of one year and two months.

“It goes without saying that firearms can be used to inflict lethal injuries,” she said.

However, due to Weekes’ rehabilitation efforts and significant mental health issues, the sentence was suspended on a three year good behaviour bond.
