Number of charges against alleged child abuser Samuel Joe Frost triple

SA’s elite child-rescuing police team has tripled the size of their cold case against an alleged abuser, with allegations of direct offending against kids.

Alleged child abuser arrested after four-year hunt

The cold case against a man arrested for child exploitation after a four-year international manhunt has almost tripled and he now stands accused of 32 crimes including multiple sexual assaults, a court has heard.

Samuel Joe Frost faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday, and was scheduled to enter pleas to 11 charges.

However, Commonwealth prosecutors said the case had been revised following further investigations by SA’s elite child-rescuing police team.

They tendered documents with the court accusing Frost of eight counts of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a child and two aggravated counts of indecent assault.

The papers further charge Frost with nine aggravated counts of producing child exploitation material, and two counts of publishing or making it available to others.

Finally, the papers accuse Frost of 10 federal and one state charge of possessing child exploitation material.

Mr Frost, 47, of O’Sullivan Beach, was arrested by SA’s elite Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team in March following a four-year international cold case manhunt.

He was charged with 11 offences, including the persistent sexual exploitation of a child, that were allegedly committed between 2014 and 2017, and on the day of his arrest.

Prosecutors allege that Interpol officers and Queensland Police were first tipped to Mr Frost, who was then identified by JACET using state-of-the-art software.

During Mr Frost’s arrest, police sniffer dogs trained to detect computer hardware allegedly found devices containing “hundreds of images” of child exploitation material.

On Thursday, counsel for Frost said they had only received the new charges earlier that morning and asked for time to seek instructions from their client.

Magistrate Simon Smart remanded Frost in custody to answer the charges next month.
