Driver airlifted to hospital after a serious crash in Mallala left a car split in half

A driver has sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital after their car veered off the road and hit a tree.

Police are at the scene of a serious crash this morning after a car hit a tree and split in half.

On Saturday, around 5.30am, a car reportedly left the road and hit a tree on Mallala Rd, Mallala.

The driver – the only occupant of the car – sustained serious injuries. and was airlifted to Adelaide for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

Motorists were warned of detours along the Adelaide to Mallala Rd while emergency services remain on scene and attend to the injured driver.

However, roads have since reopened and the vehicle has been towed from the scene.

Investigations into the crash continue.
