Morphett Vale man succumbs to injuries from crash at O’Halloran Hill

A motorcyclist is the sixth life lost on South Australian roads following a crash at O’Halloran Hill last week.

A man has died from injuries sustained during a crash in Adelaide’s south last week.

Around 3pm on January 11, police and emergency services were called to Main South Rd at O’Halloran Hill to reports a motorcycle had slammed into a guard rail.

First accounts indicated the rider was not conscious.

The rider, a 65-year-old man from Morphett Vale, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for treatment.

On Monday, he succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital.

Major Crash officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The man’s death is the sixth life lost on South Australian roads this year, compared to one at the same time last year.

It comes only days after a cyclist was killed at the intersection of Portrush Rd and Myrona Ave at Glen Osmond.

The cyclist was later identified as former SA Police assistant commissioner Paul White.

Meanwhile, a man has been arrested after fleeing the scene of a three-vehicle crash at Sandy Creek.

Just before 7pm on Monday, emergency services were called to Barossa Valley Way to reports a Toyota HiLux lost control and crashed into a Mercedes.

A motorbike travelling behind the Mercedes subsequently collided with the rear of the car.

The driver of the Toyota allegedly ran from the ute without aiding others involved in the crash.

The man was stopped and restrained by members of the public until police arrived and placed him under arrest.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 53-year-old Lyndoch woman, was taken to the Gawler Hospital and the rider of the motorbike, a 46-year-old Lyndoch man, was conveyed to the Lyell McEwin Hospital, both for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, a 38-year-old Lyndoch man was breath tested and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.177.

He has been charged with drink driving, driving unlicensed and leaving the scene of a crash. He was bailed to appear in the Tanunda Magistrates Court in February.

Down south, three people were flown to hospital after a ute rolled on Kangaroo Island last night.

Emergency services were called to Three Chain Rd at Haines just after 7.30pm.

The driver of a Toyota HiLux, a 33-year-old Goolwa Beach man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to the Flinders Medical Centre for treatment.

Two children, aged four and two, were also flown to hospital as a precaution.

Investigations into the crash are continuing.
