Car found after masked men steal Mercedes in violent Stonyfell robbery

Police have recovered a Mercedes-Benz stolen in a violent carjacking after a member of the public spotted the luxury vehicle abandoned at a suburban oval.

Police have tracked down a Mercedes-Benz stolen in a terrifying carjacking which saw a man punched and threatened as two masked men cornered him in his driveway in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.

Stonyfell resident Don Bolton had just pulled into his Grevillea Crescent home about 2.30am on Saturday when he was ambushed by two men wearing balaclavas.

Police say the pair arrived in a new-model silver Toyota Camry, shone torches in his face and demanded his car keys.

One punched him in the mouth while the other grabbed the keys and sped off in his white Mercedes-Benz sedan with the registration XX209T.

The second suspect fled in the Camry.

However on Sunday, police were alerted by a member of the public about 5.30pm that a white Mercedes had been parked at Weymouth Oval, Coromandel Valley.

The registration didn’t match, but the car had similar driver’s door damage and police confirmed it was the stolen Mercedes from Stonyfell displaying incorrect plates.

The vehicle was towed for forensic examination as the investigation into the robbery continues.

On Saturday, Mr Bolton told 7NEWS one of the men threatened him as he demanded the keys.

“He told me in a few certain terms that if I didn’t hand over the keys he was going to finish me off,” he said.

He said he was left with “bleeding gums and bleeding teeth“ after being punched in the face.

He said he was most upset about losing the tools he kept in his car for his volunteer work.

“One part which I’m really upset in one way is that they’ve knocked off all my tools that I need for the Scouts, for my volunteer day on Tuesdays and I just hope I can get them back, that would be nice and that’s it.”

Both offenders are described as tall and slim and were wearing dark clothing.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw anyone near the white Mercedes Benz sedan at Weymouth Oval or has any dashcam or CCTV footage that may assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
