Man stabbed in Evanston Gardens after confronting duo breaking into cars

A northern suburbs father stabbed after running down two people caught breaking into cars in his quiet street says despite his serious injuries, he would do it again.

The fed-up 42-year-old from Evanston Gardens admits that “as silly as it was” to give chase, offenders were “just running wild these days”.

The man, who did not wish to be identified, said he woke to the sounds of people trying to break into cars on Gonis Circuit in Evanston Gardens just after 2am Tuesday.

He ran outside and confronted the pair, chasing them to Seabrook St where he was stabbed in the neck and back with a pair of scissors.

He stumbled back home and emergency services were called, and he was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“I was pretty worried; at one point I was scared I was possibly going to lose my life and my partner and the kids (would) have to struggle with not having me around,” he told 7News.

“Just glad to be home and glad to be alive.”

Detectives are still searching for two men, with investigations revealing several vehicles in the wider Evanston Gardens suburb had been “interfered with”, police said.

“Barossa CIB is seeking assistance from witnesses who reside in, or were present in, the Evanston Gardens area between 1am and 5am (Tuesday) to review any CCTV or dashcam footage they have which might show the two suspects involved,” police said.

Officers and detectives doorknocked nearby residences throughout Tuesday, and searched a vacant lot opposite Seabrook St that connects to the Tambelin train line.

Blood smears were visible on footpaths and the roads where the serious incident occurred.

Residents describe the area as quiet and safe.

The injured father returned home late Tuesday afternoon.

“As silly as it was, I probably would do it again because kids are just running wild these days,” he said.

“They were rifling through our stuff, our personal belongings that we have worked hard for.”
