Strathfield Tce was closed between Victoria Road and Military Road but has since reopened. Police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the incident.

The man was allegedly involved in a shoplifting incident, moments before the incident occurred, 7News reported.

He had allegedly punched a shop worker in the face after he had allegedly attempted to steal a packet of sugar.

The man then ran towards the train track lines while attempting to flee the deli store, which resulted in him being struck by the train.

Adelaide Metro said the Outer Harbor rail line services were initially suspended in both directions as emergency services attended the scene of the incident.

Services slowly resumed through the afternoon, with some services experiencing residual delays.

“Substitute buses are operating between Glanville Station and Outer Harbor Station,” they said in a statement.
