No bail application or address for man charged with criminal trespass at Rostrevor College grounds

A man has faced court after allegedly being found hiding in bushes on the grounds of an elite Catholic boarding school by a police dog.

A homeless man accused of being found on the grounds of an exclusive Adelaide private school with a chocolate doughnut has withdrawn his bail application – as he has no place to go.

Ferdon Anwar, 19, of no fixed address, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday by video link.

Counsel for Mr Anwar said they had applied for spaces at the Arches – a bail accommodation support program – but was informed there was no availability.

“We are withdrawing our application for bail,” defence said.

He has yet to plead to two counts of serious criminal trespass in a non-residential premises, and one count of possessing an article, in suspicious circumstances, to commit an offence.

Police were called to Rostrevor College at Woodforde early Saturday morning after reports of a break-in.

Witnesses reported seeing a man running off after throwing away a cash drawer.

Patrols found the canteen and another building within the Catholic boarding school grounds had been broken into.

Police dog Chaos and his handler helped search the grounds and found a man hiding behind bushes on the property.

The man was found wearing gardening gloves and in possession of a number of screwdrivers, a balaclava and a chocolate doughnut, police said.

On Monday, a duty solicitor for Mr Anwar said SA Police had informed her they did not oppose her client being released on home detention bail, so long as a suitable address was found.

Mr Anwar was remanded in custody.
