A northern suburbs man has been arrested for attempting steal a skill-testing machine from a shopping centre on Friday, with police alleging another 10 stolen machines were found after they searched his home.
Police were called to Parabanks Shopping Centre on John Street, Salisbury just before midday after reports a man was attempting to steal a machine – the type where gamers lower a claw to try grab and win toys.
A witness called the police to report a man acting suspicious near the machine and gave a description of the suspect’s appearance.
Officers raced to the shopping centre and spotted a white van with what appeared to be handwritten number plates in the carpark.
A background check of the van, revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a Green Fields property last week.
The man, a 45-year-old man from Parafield Gardens, was arrested and charged with attempted theft of the machine and illegal use.
Police allegedly found a bag of coins and a broken padlock taken from the skill tester machine in the man’s van.
After police conducted a subsequent search of the man’s home, they allegedly uncovered 10 vending machines and skill-testers, which were seized for forensic examination.
The man was refused police bail and will appear Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police said investigations were continuing into the matter, including which shopping centres the other machines were allegedly taken from.
