A man has been arrested after a dramatic standoff with police and STAR Group officers at Parkside
Specialist tactical police were called to Blyth St just after 12pm as police investigated an assault and robbery north of the city last week.
The STAR Group officers stormed the home and brought out the man, 40, who was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries, including to his shoulder which was dislocated and ‘popped’ back in by paramedics on scene.
On Tuesday night he was charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, detaining a person to commit an offence, theft, and firearms offences. He did not apply for bail and will face the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The man was reportedly hiding in the roof cavity of the Parkside address.
Neighbour Maya D’Mello, 19, was told by STAR Group officers to stay inside and lock her doors.
“I heard them yelling over the loudspeaker telling the man to make himself known and put his hands up,” she said.
“There were two of them in our backyard with machine guns, they said there was something happening with a man a few doors over and not to open the door until they said it was safe,” she said.
It comes after a 32-year-old man was allegedly assaulted at an Angle Park home by a man and a woman known to him last Tuesday.
Police said the male offender was armed with a firearm at the time of the assault.
On Saturday, a 20-year-old woman from Angle Park was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, indecent assault, assault, detaining a person to commit an offence and theft.
She was granted police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court in October.
