A driver accused of killing a scooter rider in a crash at Mile End has made his first appearance in court, covering his face with a mask and sunglasses.

A man charged over the death of a scooter rider in Mile End has appeared in court for the first time.

Benjamin Luke Cooper, 42, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday after the crash that claimed the life of a 56-year-old man on February 17.

Mr Cooper, of St Clair, did not speak during the hearing, with his lawyer James Caldicott requesting an adjournment for a charge determination date.

The 42-year-old is charged with one count of cause death by dangerous driving.

Mr Cooper left the court, wearing a mask and dark sunglasses, and declined to comment when approached by the media.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Sir Donald Bradman Dr and James Congdon Dr at 12.45pm on Saturday, February 17, following reports of a collision between a motor scooter and a car.

The 56-year-old West Beach man, driving the scooter, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, where he later died on February 21.

Mr Cooper will next appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in September.
