An Adelaide preschool went into lockdown after man was found standing in the middle of the playing area after scaling a high rear fence.
Police were called to Campbelltown Community Children’s Centre – an early learning service with a preschool on site – just before 10.30am on Monday after reports that a man had snuck in over the rear fence and was standing in the play area of the school.
Campbelltown Community Children’s Centre assistant director Sarvia Pouso said the children at the centre were all inside at the time and a lock-in was enforced.
“It was a bit shocking, the fences here are pretty high,” she said.
“But staff acted quickly … we usually do drills for this kind of thing so we know what to do.”
She said the man did not communicate with the children or staff.
SA Police confirmed no children or staff members were injured by the man who left the yard and was arrested nearby on Playford Rd.
Police are continuing to work with the Education Department.
The 44-year-old Newton man is expected to be charged with numerous offences including trespass and being unlawfully on premises.
A decision on bail has not yet been made.
Police are appealing for anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or 1800 333 000.
