Citybound traffic was at a standstill on Port Rd this morning after a chemical spill.

Police have reported a container fall off a truck and spilt chemicals on the road.

The alarm was first raised just after 9.30am on Wednesday morning and commuters have reported large delays.

Police have confirmed two lanes are blocked for citybound traffic and they are asking drivers to avoid the area.

7NEWS are reporting tram services between the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Entertainment Centre have been halted.
