MAFS Sebastian Guilhaus’ bail application to help drug addicts at RAH’s Narcotics Anonymous refused by SA District Court

This former footballer and reality TV contestant wants his drug trafficking bail relaxed so he can counsel users twice a month – and a judge has taken a dim view.

MAFS Star Sebastian Guilhaus Leaves Adelaide Court

Former footballer, reality TV contestant and OnlyFans star Sebastian Guilhaus wants to mentor drug users twice a month so they kick their habits while he bolsters his rehabilitation, a court has heard.

On Thursday, counsel for Mr Guilhaus asked the District Court to relax his strict home detention bail, ahead of trial, so he could speak at the RAH’s Narcotics Anonymous program twice a month.

Peter Morrison, for Mr Guilhaus, said NA’s conveners had asked him to “stay on” as a “non-professional” speaker and mentor after successfully completing both their program and another.

“He’s been invited because of his successful rehabilitation, to share his story of rehabilitation and how its affected his ambition to remain drug free,” he said.

“He wants to assist those completing their own journeys of rehabilitation via his personal story which, so far, is a successful one.”

Judge Nick Alexandrides, however, was unmoved, asking: “What are his qualifications to undertake that work?”

Mr Guilhaus, 36, has pleaded not guilty to trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

Previously, prosecutors alleged SA Police seized 870g of methamphetamine, worth $90,000, from an address in Keswick during Mr Guilhaus’ arrest in July last year.

He has experienced issues with his bail conditions before – in March, he sought and won the court’s permission to use the gym in his apartment complex.

Prosecutors had opposed his application, fearing he would not be adequately monitored under home detention conditions while in the facility.

On Thursday, prosecutor Lisa Lakatos said Guilhaus’ application was not opposed.

“He is on home detention bail for very serious offences,” she said.

“However, we take the view we should not be seen to be standing in the way of what appears to be genuine steps to rehabilitate,” she said.

Mr Morrison said mentoring formed a key part of Mr Guilhaus’ rehabilitation.

“Narcotics Anonymous is a 12-step program and the 12th, final step is spreading the word and passing the message to those still suffering addiction,” he said.

Judge Alexandrides disagreed.

“I take a different view, and the application is refused,” he said.

“It’s not an appropriate bail variation to let someone on home detention, charged with serious drug offences, to be mentoring others in a public place.”

Mr Guilhaus will stand trial next year.
