Prosecutors will push ahead with charges against a teenager accused of deliberately stringing wire across one of Adelaide’s busiest cycling routes, injuring riders.

A teenager accused of terrorising cyclists by stringing a piece of wire across one of the busiest bike paths in Adelaide’s south has left court flanked by supporters, after prosecutors announced they were proceeding with every charge laid against him.

Levi Young-Henderson, 19, fronted the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday – yet to enter any pleas to two counts of act to cause serious harm and four counts of damage property.

Mr Young-Henderson, of Noarlunga Downs, is alleged to have “acted in a way that placed the community’s safety in considerable risk”, by placing wire across the Patrick Jonker Veloway, in Port Noarlunga – causing more than $40,000 in damages after a number of cyclists struck the wire and fell from their bikes, a court previously heard.

It’s alleged, after an investigation, the teen was found to have a video on his phone displaying the bike path with the caption ‘I’m so evil’ and a devil emoji.

Defence counsel for Mr Young-Henderson previously told a court the charges were “entirely contested”, and their client walked down the bike path every day for his job as a casual fencer and “filmed the video as a joke”.

Three riders sustained serious damage to their bikes after they ran into the wire, while two men suffered “nasty grazes on the knees and elbows” when they fell off their bikes at a speed of about 35km/h.

Mr Young-Henderson was arrested by Southern District Police in January after a public appeal to identify the man was issued the day before.

Leaving the Adelaide Remand Centre earlier this year after he was released on home detention bail, Mr Young-Henderson was sighted wearing a mask over his face, along sunglasses and a bucket hat.

However, on Monday, he left court with nothing covering his face.

Joanne Liptak, for Mr Young-Henderson, informed Magistrate Simon Smart negotiations had begun – with her client remanded on continuing bail to return to court in July to answer the charge.
