Lee Paul Streng jailed for trespassing in neighbour’s home while on home detention bail

A meth-fuelled man who threw a condom at and broke into a neighbour’s house while on home detention has given the court a bizarre excuse for his actions.

Breaking the ice: Meth use in SA

A man assured two women he wasn’t a rapist or murderer after throwing a condom on their roof and breaking into their home while on home detention bail.

Lee Paul Streng, 35, was jailed for his “bizarre and frightening” behaviour after his life spiralled and he became addicted to methamphetamine.

During sentencing on Thursday, the Adelaide Magistrates Court heard Streng was on home detention bail when he went into the driveway of a neighbour’s house before he was scared away by a dog.

The court heard Streng then went to another neighbour’s house, where two women were home, and stepped into the house, saying “Hi I saw you, I thought you were pretty”.

One of the victims tried to push him back out the door but Streng wouldn’t leave the house and let himself in before sitting on the floor.

“You assured them you weren’t a murderer or a rapist,” magistrate Michael Jandy said.

The court heard when one of the victims asked why he was there Streng began apologising and pointing to his ankle bracelet.

Streng then said words to the effect of “I’m f***ed now,” before eventually leaving.

The court heard Streng was also caught with methamphetamine, which Mr Jandy said explained his behaviour that day.

Streng, of Park Holme, pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including trespassing, failing to comply with bail and possessing a controlled drug.

Stacey Carter, for Streng, told the court Streng wasn’t aggressive to the women and there were no threats or violence.

“He told police that the reason he left the house was that he could not find his cat,” she said.

The court heard Streng also told police in his interview he had thrown a condom onto a roof.

Ms Carter said Streng turned to drugs after the loss of his father and began abusing methamphetamine in his 20s, which escalated to a significant addiction.

“He accepts that when he uses drugs, particularly methamphetamine, his behaviour does become erratic,” she said.

Mr Jandy said Streng’s behaviour was “bizarre and frightening” and his victims would have been terrified.

“What I think you’ll probably understand when sober is that your behaviour is particularly frightening to people that you interact with,” he said.

Mr Jandy sentenced Streng to seven months jail, backdated to September 29.

He ordered Streng serve four months, with the remainder suspended on a two year good behaviour bond with supervision for 12 months.
