A 32-year-old man from Kingscote, who dragged an officer as he tried to drive off, has been arrested following a police chase at Hallett on Monday.
Yorke Mid North police were operating a static driver testing station on the Barrier Highway when they asked a Subaru station wagon driver towing a trailer to stop and take a roadside breath test around 12.40pm.
When he was asked to produce his licence, he tried to drive off.
Police attempted to remove the keys from the ignition, but the man grabbed the officer’s hand and started to drive away, dragging the officer for a short time.
The officer was not injured.
Police patrols pursued the Subaru when it sped off on the Barrier Highway, catching him when he finally stopped in Mount Bryan.
Police seized several items from the station wagon, including drugs and a knife.
They then arrested and charged the man with contravening a direction to stop, speed dangerous, dangerous driving to cause a police pursuit, carrying an offensive weapon, and driving while suspended.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
