A vile pedophile is now behind bars after he was found guilty of horrific sexual abuse on his stepdaughter who says she can now have her life back.

Jeffrey Thomas Brant, 68, was unanimously found guilty of maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship by a jury in the District Court on Thursday.

Brant sexually abused Kylie Bailey – who has given The Advertiser permission to identify her – between 1981 and 1992.

Outside court, Ms Bailey told the Advertiser she was feeling relieved that she can now have her life back.

“Two (convictions) in a row and I’ll do it again if I have to,” she said.

Brant was previously unanimously found guilty of the same offence in 2022 and sentenced to over 13 years in jail but won an appeal and retrial.

Ms Bailey said she was furious that Brant continually denied any of the sexual abuse after he took the stand in his own defence during the trial.

“I’m shocked that you can take an oath and get up there and lie through your teeth and make things up,” she said.

Prosecutor Paul Tate told the court in his opening statement Ms Bailey, now 45, was regularly alone with Brant when she lived with him after he started a relationship with her mother.

The court heard Brant started sexually abusing Ms Bailey at age three, with the first time happening then they were in the bath together.

The court heard another incident happened when Ms Bailey was seven and he kissed her on the lips before exposing himself to her.

“He told her that when she gets a boyfriend she will know what to do,” Mr Tate said.

On another occasion Brant abused Ms Bailey – when she was eight – while her mother was showering.

“On the prosecution case during this period of time the accused was abusing her, he also started to have her or make her watch pornography video tapes with him,” Mr Tate said.

Mr Tate told the court Brant told Ms Bailey that the abuse was a secret between the two of them.

“And if she told anyone he would go to jail and it would hurt her mother. He also told her that no one would believe her,” Mr Tate said.

David Moen, for Brant, tried to argue during his closing statement that a $20,000 debt created a rift between his client and Ms Bailey.

“There was no evidence that Kylie was either afraid, didn’t want to be around my client, didn’t want to be near Mr Brant at all,” he said.

On Thursday, Brant’s bail was revoked and the charge was adjourned for sentencing submissions.
