A man accused of killing his passenger in a crash at Paracombe last year has been ordered to stand trial, after prosecutors declined to accept a guilty plea to a lesser charge,
Jed Maxwell Bell, 32, of Wynn Vale, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.
He pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated causing death by dangerous driving over a crash at Paracombe about 6.30pm on February 15 last year.
The 34-year-old man from Athelstone, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died at the scene.
Mr Bell is alleged to have had a blood-alcohol level greater that 0.08 at the time of the crash.
At the time of his arrest, police alleged Mr Bell had a blood alcohol reading of 0.145 when breathalysed after the crash.
Instead, Mr Bell told the court he would plead guilty to the lesser charge of aggravated driving without due care.
A prosecutor told the court that guilty plea was “not accepted”.
Magistrate Simon Smart adjourned the hearing for Mr Bell to next appear in the District Court for arraignment in May, ahead of a future trial.
