A trio viciously bashed a man in a terrifying hostage ordeal over several hours, before degrading him with a rolling pin.

Indran Supparamaniyam, 38, Bakiasuppiah Pillay Ramachandran, 39, and Baalu Muniandy, 29, left the victim humiliated and terrified after they took the law into their own hands.

During sentencing on Tuesday, the District Court heard the trio were drinking at Naracoorte on December 24, 2021 when it was decided to attend the victim’s house.

Supparamaniyam and Ramachandran entered the victim’s room to find him asleep and dragged him to the car parked in the driveway.

The court heard they drove back to Supparamaniyam’s house and began assaulting the victim over seven hours, including violently punching and kicking him and smashing beer bottles over his head.

A digital camera was then set up on the kitchen table and the men proceeded to shave the top of the victim’s head, before they removed his shorts and underwear.

The victim was then pinned him down and had an oiled up rolling pin was placed against his anus on two occasions, as well as using it to beat him.

The court heard Ramachandran then said they should kill the victim or it would become a bigger problem.

However, at some point the victim asked to be taken home and the men let him leave.

He presented at Naracoorte hospital with cuts and bruises, a blood nose, and two chipped teeth.

The trio pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including serious criminal trespass, false imprisonment and indecent assault.

The court heard the victim remains humiliated and terrified by what the trio did to him and is worried that they will seek revenge.

“Your behaviour was cowardly, gutless and despicable,” Judge Heath Barklay said.

The court heard Supparamaniyam became acquainted with the victim through work but their relationship deteriorated and the victim allegedly began harassing him and his family.

However, Supparamaniyam didn’t seek help from police because he had overstayed his bridging visa and was fearful of being placed into immigration detention.

The court heard the men would likely be deported back to their home country Malaysia once their sentences were completed.

Judge Barklay sentenced Supparamaniyam and Ramachandran to six years and two months jail, with a non-parole period of three years and three months jail.

Muniandy who had a lesser role in the offending was sentenced to five years and ten months jail, with a non-parole period of three years.

Supparamaniyam and Muniandy’s sentences were backdated to December 25, 2021, while Ramachandran’s was backdated to November 10, 2022.
