HIV-positive paedophile Jadd William Brooker earns another 15 per cent off sentence thanks to second early guilty plea

An HIV-positive paedophile who said he wanted to infect children with the virus has earned another 15 per cent off his sentence with a second early guilty plea.

What to do if you think a child is being abused

An HIV-positive paedophile who vowed to infect children and adults with the virus has had his court case called on early yet again – so he could plead guilty to more than 30 offences.

Jadd William Brooker’s court hearing on Tuesday marks the second time he has expedited his own case in order to reap the benefit of SA’s sentencing discount laws.

He was not due to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court again until the end of June but lawyer Tim Clarke had the case listed early to secure a potential 15 per cent sentencing discount.

“This has been called on for pleas … I seek to enter pleas, on his behalf, to 32 of the 36 counts still before the court,” he said.

“All of my client’s matters will end up together for sentencing in the District Court, but I’d like to speak to prosecutors in the meantime about the remaining allegations.”

Brooker, 38, of Glenelg East, was charged with 44 child sex offences following his arrest in September last year.

Weeks later, he pleaded guilty to seven of those charges – earning a potential 40 per cent sentencing discount just days before laws slashing that discount came into effect.

Previously, the court has heard Brooker expressed his intention to infect adults and children with HIV, and filmed himself attempting to do so, meaning one victim had to undergo virus testing.

Prosecutors alleged he could be linked to 40 other paedophiles worldwide through the 4.5 million files of child abuse material on his electronic devices.

Investigations into that material prompted the arrests of former SA Labor political adviser Ben Waters and senior corrections officer Stewart Iain Berry.

Last month, The Advertiser revealed investigators were poised to charge Brooker with 100 more offences including the depraved abuse of six children and teens in Australia.

On Tuesday, Mr Clarke said the current case against Brooker spanned two separate court files.

The first, he said, listed eight alleged offences, of which his client had already confessed to seven.

He said the second file alleged 36 offences, adding Brooker wanted to plead guilty to 32 of those.

The remainder, he said, were subject to his ongoing discussions with prosecutors.

The state’s chief magistrate, Judge Mary-Louise Hribal, recorded Brooker’s new guilty pleas and remanded him in custody until June.

On that date, he will be expected to enter pleas to the remaining five counts across the two court files.
