A man charged over guns, drugs and a childlike sex doll has also been a wanted fugitive for more than 10 years over a bankruptcy case, a court has heard

A man allegedly busted with guns and drugs after a childlike sex doll was delivered to his house has spent more than 10 years as a fugitive on bankruptcy charges, a court has heard.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Geoffrey Michael Mew withdrew his bid for bail – meaning he will spend at least the next seven months in custody.

Mr Mew, 41, of Elizabeth Downs, has yet to plead to a number of drugs, firearms, child exploitation and illegal importation charges.

He was arrested last week in a joint operation by Australian Border Force and SA’s elite Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, comprised of AFP and SA Police officers.

It is alleged an ABF team intercepted a childlike sex doll being sent to Mr Mew’s address, triggering a search during which other illegal items were seized.

Mr Mew was due to apply for release on home detention bail on Tuesday, however his lawyer, Casey Isaacs, said his client was no longer pursuing that course.

“I have just been provided with the bail report and the home detention assessment report … for the reasons listed therein, his residence is not suitable,” he said.

Under state law, Mr Mew can seek bail at a later date because his application was withdrawn, not refused.

Commonwealth prosecutors, meanwhile, said Mr Mew had another outstanding set of charges dating back to 2013.

They said he had been charged with, but never entered pleas to, allegations he failed to provide information to bankruptcy proceedings between May 2012 and January 2013.

They also said a warrant had been issued for Mr Mew’s arrest over those charges, but never successfully executed.

Mr Mew was remanded in custody to face the bankruptcy charge next month, and the guns, drugs and child exploitation charges in March next year.
