Emergency services rushed to the Dudley Park Railway Station around 5.20pm after reports a southern suburbs woman was struck by a train.
Witnesses claim the woman slipped from the platform onto the tracks, with neighbours reporting that they heard screaming.
Fire crews and paramedics moved the woman from the tracks to the platform, before she was taken to hospital in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries around 6pm.
About six police cars were on the scene, along with the fire service team and paramedics.
The Gawler line between Adelaide and Mawson Lakes was closed, but has since reopened.
Western Districts police are investigating.
