A man whose body was found in waters off Goolwa North has been identified as a former businessman who lived in a retirement village nearby.

A man whose body was found in waters off Goolwa North has been identified as a former businessman who lived in a retirement village nearby.

Emergency services were called to Daniel Ave at Goolwa North just after 9am on Thursday after reports a man’s body was in the water.

7NEWS reports the 86-year-old has been identified as former businessman David Hyde.

“He was a nice guy,” neighbour David Dosser told 7NEWS

“We spoke to him on a regular basis, and he went out nearly every day to get his newspaper, but basically kept to himself.”

Police brought the 86-year-old Goolwa North man to shore but he could not be revived and police said they believed he had drowned.

Police are preparing a report for the Coroner and said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
