A western suburbs grandmother who has been diagnosed with dementia has had her house, her pension and her life savings frozen by the court after being charged with attempting to traffic $3.2 million worth of cocaine.

Eudoxia Pehlivanidis, 82, was last month charged along with her 30-year-old grandson with attempted trafficking in a large commercial quantity of cocaine.

On Wednesday, District Court Chief Judge Michael Evans was asked to freeze Ms Pehlivanidis’ assets as possible proceeds of crime.

The court restrained her Flinders Park home, which was estimated to be worth approximately $850,000, and a sum of $51,086.88 in her bank account.

The order also includes Ms Pehlivanidis’ aged care pension which is paid periodically into the account that has been frozen by the court.

The Advertiser understands this amounts to the entirety of Ms Pehlivanidis assets and is in essence her life savings.

An interested party in the application is the estate of Konstantinos Pehlivanidis – Ms Pehlivanidis’ late husband, who passed away in September 2018.

The court heard that Ms Pehlivanidis, a grandmother of six, was diagnosed with dementia in 2017 and her family has been insisting to police that the beloved grandmother cannot care for herself, let alone commit the crime of attempting to traffic cocaine.

Court documents viewed by The Advertiser reveal police had intercepted an 8kg package of cocaine bound for Ms Pehlivanidis’ home and replaced it with an inert substance before conducting a “controlled delivery”.

The documents allege Ms Pehlivanidis asked the delivery person to leave the package at the rear of her premises before police attended several hours later and found Ms Pehlivanidis with her grandson, Kosta Pehlivanidis.

“The respondent and Kosta Adam Pehlivanidis were in the shed with the controlled delivery package, which had been opened,” the documents allege.

“The respondent and Kosta Adam Pehlivanidis were arrested.”

The documents also allege that the potential value of 8kg of cocaine is between $2.8 million and $3.2 million if sold per gram.

Ms Pehlivanidis has previously spoken to media to deny knowing anything about the cocaine, telling 7NEWS she had “never even smoked a cigarette”.

She said she had opened the box, but “didn’t know” where it came from.

Ms Pehlivanidis and her grandson are due to appear in answer to the criminal charges in the Adelaide Magistrates Court next month.
