A duo will stand trial after a woman lost an eye and her mother was stabbed in an alleged vicious brawl in the southern suburbs.

Faith Christine Belstead, 22, had her application to live only 89m from one of the women shut down by a magistrate, who said he was not going to put them in “striking distance of one another”.

Ms Belstead, of Mount Compass, pleaded not guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court during the week to two counts of causing harm with intent, relating to the alleged attack on Anastasia Paschali and her mother Yvonne Ellis.

Her co-accused, David Vito Veri, 35, of Morphett Vale, pleaded not guilty to causing serious harm with intent.

The charges are aggravated by the alleged use of weapons.

Police were called to the scene at Radom Court, Hackham West on December 22, 2023 after reports of a brawl between the parties, which police said were known to each other.

Ms Paschali, 21, and Ms Ellis, 51, were taken to hospital after sustaining multiple stab wounds about 4am.

Ms Paschali lost her eye in the alleged offending, for which Mr Veri was charged over.

She underwent emergency surgery and was in a coma as a result of the alleged attack.

Counsel for Ms Belstead urged the court to vary her client’s bail address to live with her mother in Hackham West as it was the only address available to her.

However, the court heard the proposed address was only 89m away from where one of the alleged victims lived.

“This defendant presents little risk in my submission … She has no prior (criminal) history,” Ms Belstead’s lawyer said.

The court heard Ms Belstead had mental health conditions and was on the disability support pension, with her mother acting as her carer.

A prosecutor said they opposed the application as one of Ms Belstead’s bail conditions was that she not go within 100m of the alleged victim.

“This defendant is alleged to have stabbed both the complainant and the complainant’s mother, causing harm,” the prosecutor said.

Magistrate Simon Smart said he didn’t want to create a situation which put them in “striking distance of one another”.

“Do you know what worries me about your application, that there might be another incident,” he said.

Mr Smart refused the application and committed the duo to the District Court for arraignment in January.
