He spent nearly a week on the run before handing himself into police – now Amy Bowden’s former boyfriend will remain behind bars until at least August.
Six months after confessing to injecting his former girlfriend with a lethal dose of meth, Ethan Lenny George Ross cut off his electronic monitoring device last Friday, prompting a week long search to track him down.
Just before 5pm on Thursday afternoon, Ross handed himself in to the Elizabeth Police Station where he was arrested and taken back into custody.
Appearing before a magistrate on Friday morning, the 29-year-old – who was still dressed in what he was wearing when he turned himself in – sat quietly as a duty solicitor said he would not be making an application for bail.
Ross was released on home detention bail to an address in Salisbury in January this year, before pleading guilty to one count of supplying/administering a controlled drug, namely methamphetamine, to his former girlfriend Amy.
Court documents seen by The Advertiser in the days after Amy’s passing in February last year alleged Ross had messaged a drug dealer to deliver him “yellow bricks” to “wake Amy up” from her overdose.
His rearrest comes days after The Advertiser revealed Ross had cut off his ankle monitor, used to track his whereabouts while on home detention bail, and fled his bail address.
In an email to Michelle Sposito, Amy’s mother, on Tuesday afternoon, the Victim Support Unit of the Department for Correctional Services said Ross had cut off his ankle monitor used to track him after his release on home detention bail.
“Please be advised that Ethan Ross has removed his electronic monitoring device and his location is unknown,” the email said.
“We will advise you when we hear of further updates.”
Police then confirmed he had been taken back into custody after turning himself in on Thursday.
No details of his time of the run were shared in court, and the matter was adjourned until August.
Ross will appear in the District Court for his charge relating to Amy later this month.
