A milestone birthday has turned into a nightmare for Elizabeth Beavis as she deals with insurance companies after a drink driver ploughed her family’s car and home.

The Davoren Park family woke up just after midnight on Saturday morning to a loud bang as a drink driving 21-year-old P-plater crashed into the back of their Toyota Kluger and left a pile of rubble blocking their front door.

“I walked to the front door and couldn’t open it,” Liam Beavis, 40, said of the damage to his Pix Rd home.

What should have been a family celebration of her 40th birthday has turned into a disaster for Ms Beavis as she reconciles the damage to her property.

“On her 40th she wakes up and she’s had two hours sleep,” Mr Beavis said.

“She’s sorting insurance now.”

The damage is the last thing the family with three young children needed as they were already penny-pinching due to the rising cost of living.

“I feel so bad for her because we were already struggling to get her anything because of prices,” he said.

A pile of rubble, a caved-in garage door and a towed car illustrate the extent of the damage after the Andrews Farm driver veered off the road.

The damage to their car was extensive Mr Beavis said.

“Our towbar was bent under our car.”

The incident will have a lasting impact for the family as they adjust to life without their car.

“We’ve got three kids who are on the spectrum and they’ve got to go to therapies,” Mr Beavis said.

“I’m going to have to catch a train to work.”

But despite the impending hardship for the family, they remained in high spirits as Mr Beavis said they would celebrate Elizabeth’s birthday another day.

“She’s 39 for a little bit longer.”

Police allege they saw the 21-year old driver’s Holden sedan speeding on Whitington Rd and attempted to stop the vehicle as it sped off.

They later found the vehicle had smashed into a parked car and house on Pix Rd.

The driver returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.091.

The passenger of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The driver was reported for drink driving, misuse of a motor vehicle, aggravated driving without due care and breach of provisional licence conditions.

He had his licence immediately suspended for six months and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
