A man has faced court and admitted killing his father on Christmas night almost two years ago - but denied his actions were murder.
In the Supreme Court on Thursday, David Andrew Eldridge pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter over the stabbing death of his father, Robert “Bob” Eldridge.
Prosecutors, however, did not accept that plea - meaning Eldridge will still stand trial charged with the more serious offence of murder.
Mr Eldridge, 47, of Towitta, pleaded not guilty to having murdered his father, 71, on Christmas Day 2022.
Previously, prosecutors alleged he fatally stabbed his father inside the older man’s home at his Reynella East retirement village.
On Thursday, Justice Sandi McDonald remanded Eldridge in custody to face a pre-trial hearing next month.
