Daniel Paul Hinde in court charged with child abuse material offences after JACET arrest

A father and bus driver has faced court after allegedly grooming and sending thousands of explicit messages to a child on social media.

Adelaide man arrested by child-abuse detectives

A man charged with sending thousands of explicit messages to a child online has not sought bail because no family or friends were willing to “accommodate him” – including his wife.

Daniel Paul Hinde, of Munno Para, was arrested by SA’s elite Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team on January 16 and charged with grooming a child and child abuse material offences.

No pleas have been entered to the charges.

On Monday, he appeared before Magistrate David White in Elizabeth Magistrates Court, which heard bail addresses proposed for Mr Hinde were found unsuitable because his wife, a friend and his aunt were “not willing to accommodate him”.

Outside of court, Mr Hinde’s uncle Jack Broker, who flew in from Melbourne, said the family was shocked at the “out-of-character” allegations but trusted Mr Hinde would defend the charges.

“I’ll get him representation,” Mr Broker said. “He’ll be all right.”

Mr Broker said Mr Hinde was married with children and worked as a bus driver

“There’s no pleading guilty or not guilty at the moment, so really there is no case until he makes a plea,” Mr Broker said.

Mr Hinde, 34, has been charged with two counts of using a carriage service to access child abuse material, one count of using a carriage service to allegedly groom a child and child abuse material offences.

JACET, comprised of the AFP and SA Police, began investigating Mr Hinde man after receiving information from the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.

Investigators allegedly linked Mr Hinde to the alleged illegal child grooming activity and alleged he sent hundreds of detailed messages to other online users about child abuse material.

During a search of Mr Hinde’s Munno Para home, detectives found electronic devices, including a mobile phone. They were examined by digital forensic specialists.

Analysis of the devices allegedly identified child abuse material and hundreds of online messages to online users containing child abuse material.

SA JACET seized the electronic devices and they will be subject to further forensic examination.

Mr Hinde will remain in custody and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in February.
