A man and woman have been hit with drugs charges after a bust on the CBD fringe when they were pulled over in their prestige Audi.
The duo were arrested after they were stopped for a random driver test on Anzac Highway on the city’s fringe just after 12.30pm on Thursday.
Their white Audi station wagon was directed to pull over and while the woman driver submitted to alcohol and drug tests, a man exited the car carrying a bag and ran from officers, police said.
Police allege the man was discarding items as he fled and threw the bag on the roof of a toilet block before he was arrested without incident a short distance away.
A search of the area where the man had run recovered a number of “deal bags” as well as the man’s backpack, suspected to contain methamphetamine and cocaine, police said.
The woman’s roadside drug test returned a positive result for methamphetamine and her sample will be submitted for forensic testing.
The woman, 29, of Reynella, and the man, 42, of Hallett Cove, were both arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled drug.
The man was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, while the woman was bailed to appear in court in December.
The woman was also issued a three-month instant loss of licence.
