Community fears for missing Mypolonga man Steven Bailey, police continue search on Wednesday

Friends, family and community members are expressing grave fears for the plight of a well-known local identity after his car was found abandoned in a park.

Friends, family and community members hold grave fears for the plight of well-known Mypolonga man Steven Bailey, as police continue an extensive search.

Mr Bailey, 62, was last seen leaving his Lobethal workplace about 3pm on Friday February 28.

On Sunday, his gold Hyundai Elantra was found abandoned on the West Boundary Track in the Ngarkat Conservation Park (NCP).

Murray Mallee police along with Star Group officers, Mounted Operations Unit, PolAir have been conducting an extensive search of NCP for the past few days.

Local SES crews, some with thermal imaging devices and drones, have been helping police with the search, across several square kilometres of scrub.

A ground search for Mr Bailey kicked off again on Wednesday morning, in the NCP area – around 200 kilometres south east of Adelaide near the Victorian border.

Mr Bailey is a well-known member of the Mypolonga community with many locals taken to social media to help locate him.

In one post a friend of Mr Bailey said “the more eyes the better” adding that Mr Bailey is “no harm to anyone. Very quiet, shy introverted person.”

Mr Bailey has a slim build with grey hair and a goatee.

It is unknown what Steven is currently wearing.
