Cocaine importation charges have been dropped against a Prospect teenager who has instead pleaded guilty to possessing or secreting almost $29,000 – the proceeds of crime – in her bedroom.
Isabella Fazzari, 19, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to a charge of recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Magistrate Justin Wickens read the details of the charge aloud when asking how Fazzari would plead.
“On or about the 24th of January 2023 at Prospect, you dealt with money or property and you believed it to be the proceeds of crime and you were reckless to the fact that the money or property was the proceeds of indictable crime,” he said.
“The particulars are that you possessed or concealed $28,900 in your bedroom believing it to be proceeds of … crime.”
The charge is a minor indictable offence which will be finalised at the magistrates court level.
A major indictable charge of importing a marketable quantity of a controlled drug – which allegedly had related to the importation of 850g of cocaine from the UK which was hidden inside a puzzle box – has been dropped.
The court had earlier heard Ms Fazzari’s alleged involvement could be traced back to phone calls between herself and her boyfriend – who at the time was held in custody at the Adelaide Remand Centre.
It had been alleged she was tasked with organising tracking numbers for a parcel from the UK and passing those details on to another person to arrange its collection.
The consignment was intercepted by Australian Border Force on January 10 and replaced with an inert substance.
While charges against Ms Fazzari have been dropped, three men charged in relation to the alleged importation have also faced court.
Two of those men will return to court next month when they are expected to enter pleas.
Fazzari will return to court in October for a sentencing submissions hearing.
