Charges have been dropped against a man police originally alleged witnessed Victorian man Troy Kellett plunge to his death while scaling a shipping container at Outer Harbor in July.

Renalnto Bylo was excused from attending the brief hearing at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday where prosecution withdrew six firearms offences.

Police originally alleged Mr Bylo, 33, of Mawson Lakes, was present at the dock site when Mr Kellett plunged to his death while scaling stacked shipping containers with a grappling hook and rope in the early hours of July 9.

A charge of unlawfully being on premises had already been dropped against Mr Bylo on October 6 during a brief hearing.

Police originally alleged another man, Dasmir Kulafovski, 47, of Adelaide, was at the site when the man fell.

At the time he was charged with unlawfully being on premises and stating a false personal detail.

Those charges were also withdrawn by prosecution in September.

The Advertiser previously revealed police believe Mr Kellett was looking for a drug consignment that had travelled from South America.

Mr Kellett owned transport company Kellett Australia and had driven 750km from his home in Melbourne’s west to where he mysteriously fell to his death.

It is understood police have identified the specific container Mr Kellett was searching for and believe it was sent from South America, via New Zealand, before arriving in South Australia.

It is also believed the recipient of the container is a man in the fruit and vegetable business.

Police are working on the theory Mr Kellett was intending to bring the haul of cocaine back to Melbourne.

Sources previously told The Advertiser that Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives, along with heavily armed officers from SA Police’s specialist STAR Group response unit, witnessed Mr Kellett fall from the shipping container on July 9.

Sources also told The Advertiser police were using night-vision during the covert operation and the incident may have been recorded.

Mr Kellett died at the scene despite desperate efforts to save him.

Neither Mr Bylo nor Mr Kulafovski were accused by police of having any involvement in Mr Kellett’s death or the drug consignment.
