A southern suburbs photographer and former CFS volunteer has been charged with sexually abusing a child over several years and possessing child exploitation material.
On Thursday, James Mulholland faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with one count each of sexual abuse of a child, threatening to cause harm, procuring a child for sexual activity and producing, possessing and disseminating child exploitation material.
The 29-year-old Aldinga Beach man is known for his work in car photography, and, according to his social media, was a volunteer for the Virginia CFS brigade.
Appearing via video link from the cells beneath the court, Mr Mulholland made no application for bail and was silent as magistrate Kate White remanded him in custody until his next hearing in June.
Documents released to The Advertiser by the court revealed he allegedly maintained an unlawful sexual relationship with a child under the age of 17 between October 2020 and February 2024.
The documents also allege he had been threatening to cause harm to the same child for the same time period.
“It is further alleged that the circumstances of aggravation are that the defendant used or threatened to use an offensive weapon to commit the offence,” the document said.
SA Police allege the photographer further produced and disseminated child exploitation material over the duration of the offending.
Prosecutor Matt Dunn on Thursday afternoon asked the court for a five month adjournment for police to examine evidence.
“I am instructed to seek five months, noting that there is a fair quantity of analysis that needs to be done in terms of the content of the defendant’s mobile phone that relates to a few of the charges,” Mr Dunn said.
According to his social media, Mr Mulholland spent time working as a fly-in-fly-out worker before starting his business, Ambitious Photography.
Mr Mulholland will return to court in mid June.
