Cameron Robert Bowen to stand trial after allegedly stalking gay and gender-fluid teens on Instagram for sex

A man accused of stalking LGBT youth for sex has run out of chances after trying to postpone his court case for a sixth time.

An alleged Instagram stalker will stand trial on allegations he pursued LGBT youth online for sex – despite previously flagging a confession.

On Tuesday, counsel for Cameron Robert Bowen asked the Adelaide Magistrates Court to delay their client’s case once again.

They said they had suggested a plea bargain to prosecutors but had yet to receive a response.

Magistrate Simon Smart, however, said there was no chance of an adjournment given the case’s long history of delays.

“There have been five previous adjournments of the date to answer the charge, and I’m not going to adjourn this again,” he said.

“If your client wants to preserve his position he can plead not guilty, and I will commit the matter for trial.”

Mr Bowen, 32, of Salisbury, was arrested and charged with 32 grooming offences relating to his alleged use of an iPhone 6 and four fake Instagram accounts.

Previously, police alleged he posed as a female to target, stalk, harass and threaten LGBT and gender-fluid teenagers for sex and explicit photos.

They further alleged he “solicited” teenagers using methods taught to him by RAAF Sergeant Jacob Donald Walsh, who is himself facing child abuse and grooming charges.

On Tuesday, counsel for Mr Bowen entered not guilty pleas, on their client’s behalf, to all 32 counts.

Mr Smart remanded him in custody to face the District Court in June, when a trial date will be set.
