A man has been arrested for possessing large amounts of drugs uncovered after a wild 100km police chase from the northern suburbs up into SA’s Mid North.

About 8.25am on Thursday, police were called to Caloundra Dr at Paralowie after reports of a man passed out behind the wheel of a black Holden HSV Commodore that had stopped in the middle of the road.

When they arrived, the Commodore allegedly reversed into another vehicle before driving off.

The car was spotted speeding on Fairbanks Dr a short time later without its bumper, but patrols lost sight of the vehicle.

Later that morning, SAPOL received reports of the same Commodore driving “erratically” on the Port Wakefield Hwy heading north.

The police helicopter picked up the vehicle travelling west on the Copper Coast Highway just before 10am and tracked it as Yorke Mid North patrols cordoned off the area.

The Holden turned on to Lime Kiln Rd after passing through Kulpara where police successfully spiked its tyres.

The vehicle continued to drive on its rims and went off the road into paddocks adjacent to Kulpara Rd.

The Commodore eventually came to a stop on Upper Yorke Rd at Ninnes, where the driver, a 31-year-old man from Brahma Lodge, allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was arrested in a nearby paddock.

A police search of the Commodore allegedly turned up 200g of methamphetamine and liquid steroids.

The man was charged with numerous offences including speed dangerous, driving without due care, failing to stop at a crash scene and trafficking in a controlled drug.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court.
