Boy, 15, granted release on bail over brawl in which Rundle Mall security guard was stabbed

A 15-year-old allegedly involved in stabbing a Rundle Mall security guard – the same teen accused of knifing an Unley woman through her car window – has been bailed again.

One of two boys arrested over the stabbing of a Rundle Mall security guard has been released on strict home detention bail – and banned from entering the Adelaide shopping precinct.

On Friday, the Youth Court released the boy, 15, on electronically-monitored home detention bail to reside with his parents in their suburban home.

Magistrate Oliver Koehn noted the boy had previously “performed well” on strict bail for earlier alleged offending, but warned him not to misbehave.

“I will give you an opportunity to show you can do it again,” he said.

“If there’s any slip-up at all, you will be back in detention and there will be no hesitation in putting you there.”

The boy and a co-accused, 14, were arrested following an incident at the City Cross shopping arcade last month.

Prosecutors have alleged the 14-year-old stabbed security guard Harshpal “Harry” Sharma after he, the 15-year-old and several other teenagers were accused of shoplifting.

The court has also heard the 15-year-old is the same teenager accused of stabbing an Unley woman through her car window, last October, as she tried to protect her son.

On Thursday, the boy’s counsel told Mr Koehn that case had been resolved through a family conference – an alternative to sentencing in which offenders meet with victims.

They said police evidence in the stabbing allegations had yet to be provided, meaning their client would spend “undeserved” months in custody if not bailed.

Mr Koehn remanded the boy on home detention bail to face court again next month – his co-accused will seek release on bail on Monday.
