The devastated mother of a teenager killed in a Riverland car crash on Sunday has remembered her son’s kind heart and love of motorbikes.

Blaze Hoskins (Giles), 18, died when his Holden Commodore collided with a small truck on the Sturt Highway just before 6am Sunday morning.

The crash happened at Kingston-on-Murray near the bridge west of Cobdogla.

Mr Hoskins’ mother, Mel, said her son lived in the Barossa Valley but was travelling to the Riverland for his work with Elite Netting, a company that installs netting over horticultural sites.

He had been working in the role, which required trips away, for about two months.

“He was just a really kind-hearted kid,” she told The Advertiser.

“He loved everybody and helped everybody. He loved his motorbikes.”

Ms Hoskins said she and her “beautiful baby boy” shared special bond, and their relationship was very close.

“It was just us two for 18 years,” she said.

“My heart is shattered.”

Tributes for Mr Hoskins poured in on social media, where he was remembered as “a great young man gone way too soon”.

His grandfather, John Hoskins, wrote he had “the worst possible wake up this morning”.

“Love you mate. You are meant to be at my funeral. This is so wrong,” he posted to Facebook.

The truck driver involved in the crash, a Riverland man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Major Crash investigators made their way to the scene, and the road was closed in both directions for several hours.

Mr Hoskins’ is the 65th life lost on South Australian roads in 2021.

The road toll was 57 at this time last year.
