A MDMA addicted man told a judge to “keep doing what you do mate” after he avoided jail for being caught with three different types of drugs outside an all-ages event.

Why Australia should embrace pill testing

A drug dealer who was caught with three different type of drugs outside a football club was trying to cover his costs of being a “prolific MDMA user”.

Bailey Jade Sutcliffe, 20, told a judge to “keep doing what you do” after he was handed a suspended jail sentence for his actions.

The Adelaide District Court on Friday heard Sutcliffe was stopped by police before entering the East Gambier football club for an all ages live music event on December 21, 2019.

“You were in possession of cannabis, LSD, $5750 and seven small bags each containing two tablets of MDMA,” Judge Ian Press said during sentencing.

The court heard Sutcliffe’s phone was analysed.

“The messages on your phone were consistent with you having previously sold both cannabis and MDMA,” Judge Press said.

“The messages were not extensive but in one message from early November you informed someone you had ‘180 bikkies’ under your bed that you needed to sell.”

The court heard ‘bikkies’ is a term used to describe MDMA.

“You indicated that this message was not in fact the truth and that you were simply attempting to ingratiate yourself with others in the drug culture,” Judge Press said.

Bailey Sutcliffe was sentenced in the Adelaide District Court on Wednesday for drug trafficking.

Sutcliffe, who lives in Port Fairy in Victoria, had previously pleaded guilty to drug trafficking at a licensed premises.

The court heard Sutcliffe was selling to make a small profit, as well as covering the cost of his own drug use, as he had become a “prolific user” of MDMA.

”That drug use created tensions for you at home and at the time of your offending you were homeless and living in your car, you travelled to Mount Gambier and committed this offence,” Judge Press said.

“I am advised you have attempted to embrace a much healthier lifestyle including abstinence from any drugs and setting yourself goals for the future.”

The court heard Sutcliffe was working at a restaurant in Port Fairy until recently.

Judge Press sentenced Sutcliffe to three years jail, with a non-parole period of one year and 10 months.

The sentence was suspended on a two-year good behaviour bond of $100.

Sutcliffe was also ordered to complete 40-hours community service within eight months.

Judge Press wished Sutcliffe luck.

“Thanks so much mate, keep doing what you do,” Sutcliffe replied.
